Ebony

Our pet in the spotlight is "Ebony."  She is a chocolate ocicat who came to Best Friends Animal Hospital because she was lethargic and had been vomiting.  A physical examination and x-rays revealed a foreign object stuck in Ebony's small intestines (inside red circles).

We took Ebony to surgery and found a plastic object in her small intestine (mid-jejunum).

After removal, the owner identified the plastic object as a feather toy that Ebony liked.

Ebony is recovering well from surgery and is back to her spunky self.  However, she reminds us that although cat toys are great to stimulate exercise, they are not designed to be ingested.  If your cat attempts to ingest toys or chews on them, they should be removed and only given when well supervised.  We are thankful Ebony's owners recognized that she had a medical problem and promptly brought her in to the hospital.  Quick surgical intervention and great nursing care has her back on her paws!
